Christopher's Bio
I am currently a student at Phoenix College taking care of my undergraduate courses before I transfer to ASU in Fall '20. I am working towards a Bachelors in Applied Biological Sciences with an emphasis in horticulture and after that my Masters in plant biology and conservation.
I am the vice president of the Phoenix College Garden Club, and a STEM-CURE Peer Mentor for the BIO108 lab courses for my mentor Dr. Elena Ortiz, previously I was a Student Success Specialist for the BIO108 labs. Spring '20 is my first semester with the S-STEM/TRAIN scholarship program, which I am looking forward to participating in.
I love plants! At home, my front and back yards have become an expression of what I'm passionate about and I love showing friends and family what I am growing, or attempting to grow. If I'm not totally focused on plants at the moment then you might find me practicing the piano, reading a good book, or painting. I have a gigantic dog and seven cats, so my hands are always busy scratching furry ears.
A bit about my past: I am a returning student, so I've already lived a bit of my life working an unfulfilling dead end job. I made a tough choice to leave a paying job and risk everything for an education to build a more meaningful and fulfilling life for myself. I am proud of the progress I've made but I know that there is much more to be done to get me to where I need to be.
Hope to see you in the near future!
